Linoleum, vinyl planks, sheet vinyl, OH MY!

Linoleum, Vinyl Planks, Sheet Vinyl, OH MY!

We find that not everyone is familiar with all of the options available in today's market for vinyl in the home.

Many of us are familiar with "linoleum" that was used frequently in homes. This product is still around and available in a variety of designs and colors. This will last a very long time on your floor and is used frequently in commercial applications for durability and resilience. However, true linoleum does have very specific requirements on cleaning and maintenance. It can come with rather large installation price as it has to be heat-welded together on any seam.

Currently, the hottest trend in the flooring industry is to have vinyl flooring installed. Vinyl comes in a variety of forms, patterns and colors. With all of the options in construction and design, you can find a product to suit virtually any need you have for flooring.

Sheet Vinyl

Sheet vinyl comes in a large roll and is generally 12' in width. We carry several options in a 13'2" width. Patterns range from traditional tiles and stone to reclaimed wood plank visuals. This a great option for any room in the home. Specific varieties of the sheet vinyl can be installed without adhesive in a "floating" installation. We carry a brand of Congoleum which can be installed over plywood substrate, saving you on underlayment costs. This is attractive to customers because of the price point.

Vinyl Tile & Plank (Enhanced Vinyl/Luxury Vinyl)

Vinyl tile and plank are manufactured with a vinyl top and a ground stone back. There are click and lock wood plank versions that float over your subfloor. The majority of our customers select the full glue tile or plank versions. Most vinyl tiles carry, at minimum, a 15 year residential warranty. Many of our multifamily clients have left behind installing carpet in their apartment complexes in favor of using the vinyl tile pieces. The upfront cost is more expensive, but the value comes in replacement costs. There is not much you can do to harm a vinyl tile. They have a very thick wear layer, good scratch resistance and are extremely easy to maintain. We carry specials at a great price point.

Vinyl Tile & Plank (PVC Click or Cork Back)

Like the above mentioned vinyl tiles, manufacturers now make these with a PVC back. This is a completely waterproof type of flooring. It cannot be affected by moisture or moderate temperature changes. Meaning, this product is something you can use in your three season room. To upgrade the product, you can purchase with the attached cork backing. This is wonderful for sound insulation. Several of our main street commercial clients, such as doctor's offices, have utilized these for clean-ability, durability and sound.

Vinyl is a wonderful option for homes and commercial buildings as you can clean it with almost any cleaning supply you have on hand. It does well in wet areas such as bathrooms, entry/exit areas and areas with frequent moisture exposure. That could be an area coming off of a swimming pool or a sun porch that has a lot of indoor/outdoor traffic. The advancement on the visuals in the vinyl market have allowed designers and decorators to use vinyl products in more upscale retail environments and homes. The versatility of being screen printed allows you to choose any type of style and color for your décor. We have samples of all of these types at the store on Main Street beside Ruby Tuesday, and we would love to help you find a vinyl solution for any area!
